National Survey of Working Women: Perceptions, Problems and Prospects.
National Commission on Working Women, Washington, DC.
The results of a national survey of working women concerning their worklives, homelives, and personal lives are presented in this document. Survey data were collected by means of a questionnaire developed by the National Commission of Working Women (NCWW) and published in eight women's magazines and numerous labor publications. The questionnaire asked employed women to provide information about their general problems and concerns, as well as about what they liked or disliked about various aspects of their jobs. Women who were not working for pay at the time of the survey were asked whether or not they planned to seek employment, and to report the kinds of problems they anticipated should they take a job. Information for both groups of women was then related to various demographic and economic characteristics such as age, race, marital status, occupation, educational attainment, family income, and individual earnings. Responses from 110,780 respondents were tabulated and compiled by the NCWW. (JMB)
