The 1979 Summer Session. Community Colleges.
Hawaii Univ., Honolulu. Community Coll. System.
Selected data are summarized for students enrolled in the 1979 summer credit programs of six Hawaii community colleges (Honolulu, Kapiolani, Kauai, Leeward, Maui, and Windward). Enrollment in the credit and non-credit programs totaled 7,180. Of these students, 39% were in regular credit programs; this percentage represents a 6% decrease from the 1978 figure. An examination of student characteristics reveals that: (1) while males continued to outnumber females, there were proportionately more females in the 1979 session than in 1978; (2) there was an 11% decrease in liberal arts enrollments (44% to 35%) and a 2% increase in vocational enrollments (29% to 31%); (3) as in past summers, continuing students comprised the bulk of the enrollments (69%), followed by transfer (16%) and new (11%) students; (4) the mean age of 27.4 years was lower than the mean age reported for summer 1978 (28.5 years); (5) regular credit students carried an average of 3.9 credits and generated 11,030 student semester hours, as compared to 1978 when they carried an average of 4.1 credits, generating 12,160 semester hours. The report includes data tables comparing figures from each of the six colleges. (JP)
