The Radio Phenomenon in Italy.
Faenza, Roberto
One in a series of studies of experiments in new audiovisual techniques in Europe and the situations in some member countries, this paper traces the development of radio in Italy. Opposing views about radio broadcasting (public monopoly vs. freedom of broadcasting) are examined, and the various political and legal aspects of communications in Italy presented in case studies of several radio stations. Experiments with social and cultural significance are emphasized, with less detail supplied for purely commercial stations. Information for this study was drawn primarily from documents, which are cited in the report, and from recorded interviews with leading participants in several experiments. A short bibliography on broadcasting and mass communication is included. (JEG)
