Self-Regulation Initiatives: Guidelines for Colleges and Universities. Numbers 1-3.
American Council on Education, Washington, DC.
Three policy statements on self-regulation initiatives for colleges and universities were developed by the American Council on Education with support, in some cases, from other organizations. Policy statement number one concerns policy guidelines for refund of student charges. The guidelines summarize elements of fair and equitable policy in refunding tuition, room, board, and other charges for students who withdraw from their studies or otherwise discontinue their use of an institution's services before the end of an academic term. Policy statement number two is a joint statement of four national associations on principles of good practice in college admissions and recruitment. Topical areas are admissions promotion and recruitment, application procedures, financial assistance, and advanced standing students and the awarding of credit. Concerns of colleges, secondary schools, and community agencies are addressed. Policy statement number three addresses collegiate athletics and offers recommendations for boards of trustees, presidents, and collegiate athletics directors. (SW)
