This report (in both English and French) contains a condensed version of the conference on communication education and training needs in Africa convened by the Executive Committee of the African Council on Communication Education (ACCE) in April 1979. The five major sections of the report provide information on the following topics: the role of the ACCE; its first priority--the establishment of a secretariat; other priorities, such as the training of trainers, the preparation of teaching materials, courses for media professionals, women and the media, exchanges of staff and students, the communication needs of nonelite groups, and the establishment of a communication research and documentation network; international cooperation and the ACCE; and communication studies in Africa and funding and cooperative assistance opportunities. Six appendixes contain a conference program, a list of participants, background data on the participants, an excerpt from the ACCE constitution, a selected listing of articles from the ACCE newsletter, and its 1976 agenda for action.
