The FCC: A Research Tool.
Wilson, Paul
The numerous forms filed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) provide information about a variety of topics. Basic licensing information that is available concerns engineering, ownership, and equal employment opportunity. The FCC's broadcast bureau collects information about programing, the ascertainment of community needs, public service announcements, commercial practices, ownership, financial qualifications, and noncommercial instructional/public television. The common carrier bureau of the FCC collects ownership and general information, financial and accounting data, physical plant and operations data, employment records, and information about microwave stations. Other FCC offices that provide access to information about the broadcast media include the cable television bureau, the safety and special radio services bureau, and the field office bureau. (RL)
