Clinical professionals are offered practical guidelines for organizing psychological counseling services that will be acceptable and available to large numbers of students without being exorbitantly expensive. Detailed accounts are given on therapeutic and administrative procedures that have proven highly effective at Brandeis University's innovative counseling center. Factors that further or hinder progress at different stages of therapy are explored, and numerous case histories are presented that illustrate how a holistic concept of neurosis and health can be applied to counseling work with students. It is shown how professionals in a college clinic can win and maintain student trust, how they can increase the number of hours spent in actual work with students (rather than in meetings or in paperwork), how they can deal with counseling dilemmas posed by new student attitudes about morality and authority, and how they can most accurately evaluate their work.
