Designed for colleges and universities desiring to serve adult students, this booklet presents new practices that have been effective on campuses throughout the U.S. Listed are 350 practices reported in a telephone survey of approximately fifty representive institutions. The first of nine sections lists practices for assessing needs. Section 2, developing better programs and courses, presents practices for repackaged programs, novel courses and programs, and new learning formats. Faculty recruitment, training, and incentive practices are given in the third section. The fourth section on marketing programs presents practices in the areas of mailings, media selection, catalogs and descriptive booklets, and visual displays. Practices for revising admissions policies and registration innovations are listed in section 5. Section 6, providing support services and financial aid for students, suggests practices for increasing available funds and publicizing sources, lowering fees, counseling, and special services for adults. The seventh section on finding additional sources of funds for adult education is divided into sections on public funds, private funds, wise budgeting, and selling expertise and products. The final two sections list practices for strengthening institutional support for adult learning and evaluating programs and practices. (LRA)
