A Summary Report. 1978 New Hampshire Educational Assessment Program.
Ryan, Susan C.
Results of New Hampshire's first biennial Educational Assessment Program involving 7,500 public school students in grades 5, 9, and 12 are reported. Multiple choice and essay tests were administered in reading, writing, mathematics, state and national history, and government. Instructional assistance--including workshops, suggested classroom activities, and curriculum development assistance--were to be offered by the State Department of Education, based on test results. Test results showed: (1) fifth and ninth graders performed well in mathematics; (2) fifth graders performed well in language arts; (3) twelfth graders' reading comprehension improved markedly over ninth graders; (4) girls demonstrated higher achievement than boys in writing skills; and (5) students in grades 9 and 12 showed strength in history and government.
