Average Hours Taken by Students--Fall 1978 as Compared Against Previous Years and an Analysis of SCH Production. Institutional Research Report No. 78/79-3.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior Coll., Perkinston.
In Fall 1978, the number of student credit hours (SCH) taken by students enrolled full- and part-time in academic, technical, and vocational programs at Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College were analyzed and compared to similar statistics gathered in 1975, 1976, and 1977. Results of the analysis indicate: (1) average hours taken by full-time academic students remained fairly constant during these years, averaging 15.1 hours in 1978; (2) average SCH taken by part-time academic students decreased steadily from 5.9 in 1975 to 5.1 in 1978; (3) for all academic students, average SCH dropped from 10.7 in 1975 to 9.9 in 1978. With regard to technical students, full-time SCH remained almost constant--14.8 in 1978 as compared to 14.9 in 1975; part-time SCH decreased from 6.8 in 1975 to 5.3 in 1976, but increased to 6.0 in 1978. Vocational full-time students took 18 SCH. The total number of students in 1977 was 5,657 generating 63,550 SCH; 1978 saw a 7.2% increase in students (+410) and a 7.3% increase in SCH production (+4,643). In 1978, 64.9% of these students were academic and generated 58% of the SCH; 23% were enrolled in technical programs, generating 26% of the SCH; and 12% were enrolled in vocational programs, generating 16.6% of the SCH. A breakdown of data is presented for each of the five campuses of the college and for the summer session 1978 in a series of tables. (DR)
