Degrees and formal awards conferred by Kentucky institutions of higher education during the 1977-1978 fiscal year are listed in this summary. A total of 20,944 degrees and awards were conferred by independent and state-supported Kentucky colleges and universities. State-supported institutions conferred 17,708 degrees and formal awards including: 8,978 baccalaureate, 4,285 masters and specialist, 159 doctoral, and 908 first-professional degrees. These institutions also conferred a total of 1,399 associate degrees. The remaining 1,979 associate degrees were conferred by the 13 University of Kentucky community colleges. Independent colleges and universities conferred 3,236 degrees including: 2,223 baccalaureate, 434 masters and specialist, and 175 associate degrees. Four hundred and four associate degrees and formal awards were conferred by the seven independent junior colleges in Kentucky. Data are also included for eight business colleges, four graduate seminaries, and one undergraduate seminary. The data are tabulated by institution and by degree field. (BH)
