This guide offers 12 projects that school boards can initiate to counter alienation and strengthen relationships among themselves, the public they represent, and the staff and students whom their decisions affect. Already tried and tested by a variety of school districts throughout the U.S., the activities include an annual citizen conference on education, a realtors' seminar, public neighborhood forums, organizing parents to help set goals for the district, monthly luncheons with community leaders, curriculum presentations, an annual art show, a weekly employee newsletter, a newspaper column, informal sessions with students, an awards ceremony for outstanding student achievement, and receptions for retiring employees.
