Assessed in this report are the developments made in the education of black undergraduates in predominantly white colleges over the past decade. The findings of three nationwide surveys in which 800 black undergraduates at 40 four year colleges were interviewed are presented and discussed. Changes in separatism over the ten year period are examined in terms of peer relationships, student participation in college activities, student housing, faculty attitudes, choice of subject areas, and students' socioeconomic status and educational background. Advancements made in various parts of the country are evaluated. It is pointed out that the least positive experience for black students has been in the West. It is also pointed out that private colleges seem to have progressed farther than public ones in dealing successfully with black students. (EB)
