In order to equalize faculty salaries in Alabama technical and junior colleges, all ranks that were available to junior college teachers were opened to all technical college teachers. To do so, certification standards had to be developed for Ranks II, III, and IV for technical college faculty. This paper contains general instructions for the application of these standards as they relate to: advancement from different ranks, documentation of qualifications, and the approved General Education Cluster and Vocational Education Cluster requirements. In addition, minimum certification requirements are presented for instructors of business and office education, distributive education, agriculture, related subjects, and health occupations; and also for teachers in trade and industrial areas and data processing. The application for certification of technical college/institute instructors is also provided. It contains detailed instructions for completion of all 12 items: personal data; technical college; current certification; occupational work experience; high school diploma/equivalent; postsecondary teaching experience; postsecondary educational experience and degrees, including completion of the Vocational Education and General Education clusters; in-service activities; certification of competency; and verification of accuracy by the applicant and college president.
