Data tables summarize selected personal and academic characteristics of students enrolled at the seven Hawaii community colleges in the spring 1979 semester, focusing on students enrolled as classified and unclassified students in credit programs. Registrations in various community college offerings numbered 27,033. Of these, 71% were regular students enrolled in credit programs; 2% were early admits or concurrent registrants; 7% were apprentices or journeyworkers in non-credit programs; and 20% were in special programs. For the first time in several semesters vocational education majors outnumbered liberal arts majors (46% compared to 44%). There was very little change in the mean age of students (25.4 years) and in the percent of continuing students from the fall semester (over 70%). Several trends which had emerged in previous years were found to be continuing: there were again more women than in previous spring semesters; there were proportionately more part-time students than in previous semesters; students continued taking fewer credits; and the proportion of students with a Hawaii permanent address had continued to increase. In general, enrollment showed a decline by 3% compared to spring 1978 and by 7% compared to fall 1978. (MB)
