The distribution of financial aid funds to students attending Florida community colleges is summarized in data tables outlining the following: (1) financial assistance to students, 1977-78, by number of awards, dollars awarded, and average amount per award for specific categories; (2) financial aid by race/ethnic group; (3) comparison of enrollment to financial aid distribution; (4) financial aid by sex; (5) assistance by college and major aid group; and (6) trends in the distribution of total financial assistance, 1974-1975 through 1977-1978. Findings of the study include the following: the number of awards (89,912) exceeded the unduplicated recipients (66,306) indicating that a large number of students received more than one award; 70% of the aid dollars were for "Grants" and 14% for "Loans"; Blacks received 36% of all awards and 41% of all dollars; 39% of all "Grants" went to Blacks and 83% of all "Scholarships" to Whites; Blacks made up 14% of the college enrollment, but 36% of all aid recipients were Blacks, while Whites made up 78% of the college enrollment and 53% of all aid recipients were Whites; 57% of the total recipients were females and they received 64% of all aid dollars; and in all aid categories except "Loans," dollar amounts increased, as did average amounts per recipient. The total dollar amount has increased over the years with the greatest increases in the "Grants" category. (Author/MB)
