Planning for a Statewide Educational Information Center Network.
Van Dusen, William D.; And Others
A system of statewide educational information networks is proposed and plans for the implementation of such a network are presented. The need for a coordinated, well-administered system to disseminate information about educational opportunities is discussed with specific reference to the importance of reaching older learners, minority groups, urban and rural areas, and other underserved populations. How such programs can be identified and requirements they should meet are discussed. It is recommended that the network (1) be comprehensive and provide information about all education options and alternatives; (2) provide coordination to insure that the needs of the consumers are met, resources are not duplicated, and to monitor funding requests; and (3) evaluate the quality of the services offered. Three plans for organizing an educational information network are explained and methods for expanding and developing services are provided. Federal, state, local, and private sources of potential funding for an education information network are included. (BH)
