A Model Academic Advisement Manual for Teaching Faculty.

The manual, for faculty advisors at Florida International University, provides information regarding policies and procedures relating to the academic advisement process. The introduction includes an academic advisement policy statement and the philosophy of the School of Health and Social Services. Part 2 provides an overview of the four phases of the advisement process and discusses the functions and responsibilities of the coordinator and the faculty advisor and outlines liaison activities with the Office of Registration and Records. Admissions are covered in part 3 (including such topics as admission policies and procedures, program requirements, general education requirements, and transfer credit) and registration is examined in part 4. Academic regulations (such as class attendance, dropping and adding, final exams, withdrawal, readmission, and suspension) are described in part 5. Part 6 focuses on the grading system, and part 7 on degree requirements. Curriculum offerings in the School of Health and Social Services (such as criminal justice, dietetics and nutrition, health science, home economics, nursing, physical therapy, and social work) are outlined in part 8. Part 9 provides other information regarding the external degree program, career planning and placement services, clinical and field experience, individualized programs of study, and statistics on the School of Health and Social Services.
