Television and Human Behavior.
Comstock, George; And Others
To compile a comprehensive review of English language scientific literature regarding the effects of television on human behavior, the authors of this book evaluated more than 2,500 books, articles, reports, and other documents. Rather than taking a traditional approach, the authors followed a new model for the retrieval and synthesis of scientific information based on review of the literature, the establishment of an information service to search through the literature and disseminate materials, and the designation of the first author as principal investigator and organizer of the book. The book discusses television research according to the following topics: an overview, past and future; content analysis of various program types; audience analysis; television in everyday life; the effect of television on children and other specific audiences; television in politics and advertising; the psychology of behavioral effects; and the future of television. In addition to a lengthy reference section, the book provides a name and subject index. (MAI)
