Guide for Occupational Experience Programs in Vocational Education.
Gibson, Roscoe R.
Intended for use by secondary and postsecondary vocational instructors in organizing and conducting supervised occupational experiences for students, this handbook is divided into two parts. Part 1 covers planning and managing occupational experience programs and discusses the following topics: (1) basic definitions and objectives of an occupational experience program; (2) development of an administrative plan, including scheduling of the occupational experience, staff commitment, and funding; (3) student preparation; (4) development and selection of, and supervisory visits to, training stations; (5) student placement; (6) program supervision, such as supervisory reports and the evaluation of home farm or family business occupational experiences; (7) evaluation of the instructor-supervisor; and (8) a calendar of activities. Part 2 provides model training plans which were developed through the joint efforts of an advisory committee, curriculum specialists, and representatives of business and industry. Plans are given for the fields of agribusiness, agrimechanics, production agriculture, health, business and office occupations, and auto mechanics. Each plan lists competencies that students will achieve while employed at the training stations and that can be used to evaluate student progress during and at the end of the program. The appendixes contain sample forms to be used for profiles, plans, reports, and evaluations by and about employers, students, and instructor-supervisors. (ELG)
