Articulation of Bookkeeping/Accounting Competencies between Secondary and Postsecondary Levels in the Lakeshore VTAE District. Final Report.

Designed to assist teachers and counselors in the articulation between secondary and postsecondary bookkeeping-accounting programs, this project developed competencies and levels that could be used in developing courses and planning capstone programs, in assisting students in program and course selections, and in easing student transition from high school to postsecondary programs. The list of competencies required for bookkeepers and accountant jobs was developed from existing task analyses conducted by the Oregon Board of Education in 1973. Information regarding competencies and proficiency levels taught in the high school and technical school courses was obtained from participating teachers in the project and a survey of all high schools within the Lakeshore Vocational, Technical, and Adult Education District. To disseminate the results of the study, a meeting was held with Lakeshore district high school teachers, administrators, and counselors, and the following recommendations were presented: (1) the articulation program should be continued; (2) the various terminology used in referring to the same competency or task should be disseminated throughout the district; and (3) an instrument should be developed for determining advanced standing or placement at Lakeshore Technical Institute so that students do not duplicate their high school courses.
