Activity Coordinator for Homes for the Aged and Infirm and Family Care Homes.
Parham, Kennon
This curriculum guide provides information to be used for training individuals employed as activity coordinators in Homes for the Aged and Infirm in North Carolina. A brief description of the curriculum, required and suggested textbooks, films, handout materials, attitude surveys, instructor resources, and student requirements leading to certification of completion are presented in a note to the instructor. A description of the contents of a notebook to be prepared by students and a course outline are also provided. The curriculum guide is divided into 16 units. Within each unit knowledge and skills necessary to accomplish the tasks of an activity coordinator are specificed. Units emphasize activities such as developing helpful relationships with residents and staff members of the group home, and assessing activity needs and residents' abilities. In addition, suggested methods and materials are listed to assist the instructors by providing further details to insure the intended focus of the course and to facilitate the skill and knowledge development of each participant. Following every four units is an activity coordinator training course evaluation requesting opinions and comments as well as a detailed final evaluation covering the 16 units. The appendices include job descriptions, suggested resources, handouts, and supplies, a list of frequently used terms, exercises, surveys, and preliminary questionnaires. (TP)
