Headsmart Adventures is an interpersonal skills curriculum designed for nine to eleven-year old children which was the subject of a quasi-experimental study in seven Philadelphia area schools. The evaluation was based on results of a structured interview and two affective tests specially designed to measure the goals of the program. The purpose of the course was to teach concepts and skills that would enable children to be more effective in their interpersonal relationships, to understand and express emotions and to be aware of emotions in others. The study indicated that experimental classes had higher test scores than did control classes from the same seven schools. Another finding was that girls had higher scores than did boys. There is a discussion of social learning theory and role models as they might affect sex differences. Copies of the interview schedule and the two tests are included. What Would You Do? includes 18 multiple choice questions concerning what the student would do in particular situations. What's Happening? asks questions about the emotions displayed in eight different sets of cartoons. (CTM)
