During spring 1977 registration, 3,255 or 45% of Moraine Valley Community College (MVCC) registering students responded to a scheduling preferences and problems questionnaire covering enrollment status, curriculum load, program preference, ability to obtain courses, schedule conflicts, preferred times for class offerings, actual scheduling of classes, preferred number of class meetings per three credit-hour courses, and student opinions on courses they could not schedule or would like to see offered. Eighty-six percent of full- and 84% of part-time students were able to schedule the classes they needed. Students not specifying curriculum load generally had more difficulty obtaining courses. Full-time respondents preferred morning classes, while part-time respondents opted for evening classes. The MVCC student body had 30% full- and 70% part-time students, and analysis of the 1978 spring schedule indicated 42% of classes were scheduled in the morning and 32% in the evening. Both student groups preferred that three credit-hour courses be offered twice weekly; the second preference of full-time students was three times and for part-time students once weekly. The 1978 schedule showed 31% of courses offered once, 44% twice, and 25% three times weekly. Common student requests were for more classes in the evening and more sections for popular courses; the most frequently suggested additional course was photography. (TR)
