A program providing small grants to faculty members to carry out promising proposals for instructional improvement was undertaken at Memphis State University in 1974. Herein are included fifteen reports describing projects conducted during the third year of the program, and a report evaluating the small grant program. The reports focus on: professional reading skill; teaching of experimental design and statistics; computer programming for financial analysis; computer assistance for laboratory problems in petroleum geology; an observational study of undergraduate teaching; graphic conceptual tools for urban planning problems; an intradisciplinary course in language and performance styles; communication skills for graduate students in education; the use of Teaching Information Processing System (TIPS) in chemistry, physics, and economics; videotechnology for bringing local expertise into the classroom, for sophomore physics lab experiments, and for Spanish review; and the use of pseudo-isochromatic plates in art students' color perception.
