The Pilipino Immigrants: A Discussion Guidebook.
Oregon Library Association, Salem.
Filipinos are now the largest Asian group immigrating to the United States. Some of the reasons for the great influx of professionals who have immigrated include: (1) the false picture of the good life in the U.S., (2) the political and economic situation at home, (3) the oversupply of college graduates and professionally trained persons, and (4) adventure. Problems related to housing, health, social service, recreation, employment, mental health, legal service, education, the elderly, consumer practices, youth, media, and many other individual and group problems have been experienced by these immigrants. Questions dealing with issues such as statistics, historical perspectives, the new wave of Filipino immigrants, pluralism vs. the melting pot, and the potential among Filipinos in America are discussed in this curriculum guide.
