Postsecondary Educational Supply and Occupational Demand In Texas for the Period of 1977-1983. A Report by the State 1202 Commission.
Texas Coll. and Univ. System, Austin. Coordinating Board.
This report provides information on the relation between postsecondary education output in Texas and career opportunities in the Texas job market. Comparisons are made based on 1977-1983 projected averages for occupational openings available to entrants into the state labor market according to five levels of educational attainment. Comparison of supply to openings for first professional degrees indicates a generally balanced condition: an average total of 3,815 market ready graduates against 3,495 to 3,830 job openings. The average annual output of master's and doctoral degree recipients is 19,880, and the market ready supply is 12,305; after adjustments, the number of openings ranges from 12,560-13,765. Approximately 51,000 baccalaureate graduates are projected annually; of these, 39,740 are considered market ready. Openings for these graduates number between 35,090 and 38,460. For vocational program students having one to three years of college, 41,095 are market ready to fill between 50,770 and 54,730 jobs. Vocational program students with some postsecondary vocational training, of whom 20,060 are market ready annually, face between 26,240 and 27,815 openings. Information on current statewide and regional employment opportunities by program area, occupation, and educational level are presented in tabular form. Projections of annual supply/demand by program area and level for 1977-1983 are also included. (TR)
