A Plan for the Research, Development and Implementation of a Comprehensive Health Occupations Education Program. Project H.O.P.E. Final Report.
Smalley, Shirley
The major objective of the three-year project reported here was to develop a long-range planning and management system for a comprehensive health occupations education program for the State of Indiana. The body of the report is a summary outline of the project's three components, each of which corresponded to one of the three objectives: (1) to develop a relevant inservice program to meet professional development needs of health occupations instructors and to develop a competency-based teacher training program for the future preparation of health occupations educators; (2) to develop a performance-based student training program; and (3) to develop a system for providing information services to teachers, teacher-trainers, students, and others. The bulk of the report consists of three appendixes, one for each component, each containing an overview and some or all of the products of the component. For example, included in section one, which focused on development of a teacher-trainer system design model, are the following items: a paper comparing the V-TECS system with the project's curriculum development pattern; the proposed inservice competency-based program outline; and a list of validated health occupations teaching competencies. The contents of the second component include modules and revised modules (e.g., Microorganisms that Cause Disease) and the task analyses, instructional objectives, and criterian referenced tests for the Indiana medication aide training program. Contents of the information resources component appendix include a computerized resource system model for disseminating health occupations information and material to vocational students and educators.
