This pamphlet includes several program transcripts on educational research from the National Public Radio series, Options in Education. Dr. Harold Hodgkinson, former Director of the National Institute of Education, and Noel Epstein, Education Editor of the Washington Post, discuss "The Quality of Media Reporting on Education" and whether the American public is receiving top quality educational research for its money. "An Outsider's Look at the American Educational Research Assocation" (AERA) is presented by John Merrow. Some Washington, D.C. teachers give their views on whether or not this research ever reaches the classroom. An example of an AERA Convention Workshop is presented. A mini-report is given on the options in formative evaluation findings. Writer Jonathon Kozol discusses the difficulty of getting research funding; while Dr. William Russell, executive officer of the AERA, speaks on "Research and Policitcs." Dr. Hodgkinson and Mr. Epstein engage in further discussion on the "Misuse of Educational Research and Political Bureaucratic Reaction to Educational Research" and "Research in a Pluralistic Society."
