Schooling and Leisure Time Uses of Television. A Proposed Research Agenda Submitted to the National Institute of Education.
Clark, Richard E.; And Others
Seven researchers met with three representatives from the National Institute of Education (N.I.E.) in January 1978 to draft a research and demonstration agenda for N.I.E. on the relationship between leisure time uses of television and school performance. Of particular concern to N.I.E. is the role of federal policy and programs in addressing the concerns raised by parents, the general public, the mass media, and consumer action groups. Project areas proposed by participants are outlined and listed in order of priority ranking: (1) the development of mental skills with television, (2) television literacy, (3) home environment, (4) children's use of time, (5) the acquisition of knowledge from television, and (6) television research bibliographies. Since the proposed research topics differ significantly from the original proposals, preconference papers submitted by participants R. E. Clark, G. Salomon, G. Comstock, R. Hornik, E. A. Medrich, H. Levie, and A. Dorr are appended. (VT)
