Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, New York, NY.
The influences, both on and off campus, that determine the shape of the curriculum of many campuses are considered. The main components of the curriculum--advanced learning skill, general understanding, breath, concentration, and electives--are outlined. The relationship of college education to the world of work is discussed. The unique environment provided by colleges for value education, not only in the formal environment, is also described. The appendices include a catalog of goals of hiqher education, a report on grade inflation and the evaluation of student work, and more than 60 specific suggestions for consideration in curriculum planning.
