State-wide Evaluation of the Wisconsin Instant Information System for Students and Counselors.
Augustin, James W.; Lee, Mercile J.
A statewide evaluation of the Wisconsin Instant Information System for Students and Counselors (WISC) was conducted by surveying a stratified random sample of the user populations including students, counselors, and teachers. Each of the three user groups in the 103 high schools involved in the survey was given a questionnaire which focused on the usage of WISC, quality of the materials, its effects and more immediate impacts as perceived by the user, and overall reactions of the users. Data from the three questionnaires were tabulated by computer. School size was found to be an important factor in several areas such as awareness and use of WISC. The results were reported in relation to some of the major concerns about WISC, including the following areas: response to the evaluation, student awareness and use, counselor and teacher use, student access, quality of WISC materials, hardware, effects on students, effects on counselors and teachers, parent involvement in Career Planning, overall reaction, and WISC in non-public schools. Finally, ten recommendations based on these results were suggested. (Survey instruments, related correspondence, and a list of the evaluation sites are included in the appendixes.) (BM)
