Evaluation of Mesa Public Schools' Project: Demonstrating the Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation of Developmental Guidance, Counseling, and Placement Components in a Career Education System.
Helliwell, Carolyn B.; And Others
Phase 1 evaluation results of a demonstration project in career education are summarized in this report. (The program was designed to meet established goals and objectives through a series of guidance units administered to students in the classroom by teachers as part of the regular curriculum. General conclusions and recommendations are reported based on results of the formal field test of eleven guidance units and the attainment of ten staff product objectives. Conclusions presented include the following: (1) Nine of the ten staff product objectives were accomplished satisfactorily; (2) only one of the three elementary units was field tested during 1973-74; only in five of twenty-three objectives were there statistically significant differences between experimental and comparison students; (3) significant differences in the growth of experimental and control students were achieved on at least one of the objectives of each of the four units at the junior high school level; (4) no significant differences in the growth of experimental and control students were achieved on the objectives of three of the senior high school program's six units. Appendixes contain instruments used in the assessment of staff product objectives, results of the current status assessment, and items and results of attitude sections and help inventory sections of the survey tests for the junior high school program.
