An Off-Line Serials System; A Practical First Step into Automation.
Lewis, Gary A.
Libraries frequently reject automation because of high costs and lack of expertise. A simple, economical, automated serials records system is presented, based on storage of data on IBM cards. The system was implemented at the Radford College Library to best meet numerous needs. Samples of files and reports are given along with maintenance procedures. Minimum data processing requirements are outlined. Implementation is explained, including cost analysis. The system is easily modified or expanded; suggestions are given. Offering basic serials maintenance tools at low initial and continuing costs, this system may have distinct advantages over many automated systems presented today. (Author)
