Volunteer Services Manual: A Manual for Alcoholism Program Directors.
University Research Corp., Bethesda, MD.
This publication is addressed to the thousands of alcoholism program directors in the country who head programs that vary widely in age, size, budget and philosophy, but which appear to have one thing in common: they do not utilize community volunteer services to the same degree that other such segments of the public health field do. The purpose of this "how-to-do-it" manual is to encourage alcoholism agencies to involve more volunteers from different segments of the community in their programs. Some of the topics discussed are: (1) what to look for in volunteers; (2) what volunteers can do; (3) finding and recruiting volunteers; (4) educating volunteers; and (5) training volunteer counselors. Also included are 18 forms helpful in incorporating volunteers into an alcohol program. These forms include job descriptions, an application form, an interview guide, and a sample volunteer-agency contract. (Author/HMV)
