Texas Postsecondary Educational Supply and Demand Information System. A Preliminary Report by the State 1202 Commission for Postsecondary Educational Planning.
Texas Coll. and Univ. System, Austin. Coordinating Board.
The document provides information on the relationship between the output of post-secondary education and career opportunities in the short term (one- to two-year) job market in Texas by identifying those vocational and academic programs which are overproducing, underproducing, or in balance in relation to occupational needs. Current certificate and associate degree program employment opportunities are presented in extensive charts which rate demand/supply for those occupations which seem to represent typical jobs applicable to graduates of each specified program, with indications of projected occupational needs to 1980 considering demand only. Occupational program areas include agriculture, distribution, health, home economics, office, technical, trade and industrial, and associate degree (arts/sciences). Four-year college, graduate, and professional degree programs are presented in the identical format, with program areas including liberal arts, science, fine arts, teacher education, agriculture, engineering, home economics, law, social services, library science, veterinary medicine, nursing, pharmacy, business administration, optometry, technology, and general. Bar graphs depicting short term employment opportunities for both programs are also presented, as well as a discussion of methodology and data sources. It is stressed that the information presented is applicable only until September 1, 1978. (LH)
