WISE Search Program Reference Manual for the 1110.
Relles, Nathan
WISE is an on-line interactive information retrieval system designed to operate on keyword oriented data bases. The system was designed particularly with bibliographic data bases in mind, but it is potentially useful for any keyword oriented data base. The WISE user searches a data base by entering and combining keywords that are appropriate to the data base and subject area of interest. The program which searches for entries in a data base is called SEARCH. This document dealing with the SEARCH program is intended to serve both as a tutorial guide for beginning users, and as a reference manual for the more experienced user. Specific chapters focus on: (1) procedures for establishing communication (4)obtaining abstracts; (5) creating and using temporary and permanent profiles; (6) miscellaneous commands; and (7) the "help" mode. Appendices include a summary reference guide, sample abstract citation, procedures for obtaining nonstandard abstracts, AIM/ARM availability, and "tricks of the trade." As of September 1977, the RIE, CIJE, and AIM/ARM data bases were available for searching. This is an update of the January, 1976 reference manual. (Author/JPF)
