The New Model Me: High School Student Book.
Educational Research Council of America, Cleveland, OH.; Lakewood Public Schools, OH.; Ohio State Dept. of Education, Columbus.
The workbook contains activities and readings to help high school students better understand why people behave as they do and how to apply that knowledge to their own behavior and that of others. The activities focus on developing skills for dealing with frustrations and aggressive feelings which students will meet in school and throughout life. Six units comprise the book. "Human Behavior" relates how one's needs, personal resources, immediate physical settings, and other factors influence behavior. "Controls" focuses on the outside world and how it affects a person's feelings about himself and others. "Real Self" increases awareness skills and the importance of personal values. "Values" contains activities which help identify the feelings, needs, and attitudes that suggest what students want in their lives. "Response" examines various methods people use to deal with attitudes, frustrations, and problems. "Change" utilizes evaluation skills to help students see how the course has changed them, their environment, and their peers. Specific activities include deciding whom to exclude from a bomb shelter, working in groups to build physical structures, and role playing conflict situations in the home. (Author/AV)
