Application and Enrollment of CUNY Freshmen: Fall 1975 vs. Fall 1976.
Kaufman, Barry; Terdeman, Robert
Centrally-collected data were the basis of this report on first-time freshmen applications and enrollments at The City University of New York during the 1975-1976 period, in which, due to financial problems, changes were made at CUNY regarding tuition imposition, new retention standards, and new admissions criteria. The data are presented in these categories: fall 1975 applications compared with fall 1976, 1975 enrollment compared with 1976, allocation-enrollment, enrollment by college, and special programs. Major findings include: a 16 percent decline in freshmen applications, most in the senior colleges with the community college enrollment about the same; greater decreases among senior college freshmen who were affected by the new academic standards; increases in freshmen enrolled in SEEK and College Discovery programs, which reflects the new SEEK eligibility criteria and contributes to senior college heterogeneity as measured by race-ethnicity and median family income of students' residential area.
