The first task of the Consortium of Institutions of Higher Learning for Community Education was to identify the programs, courses, and personnel related to community education in 58 public and private colleges and universities in Illinois. Data collected by a survey questionnaire from 47 of those institutions are presented in this report. After an overview of community education, the paper gives a brief legislation report for community education in Illinois from 1972 to 1976. Also included is a 21-page selected bibliography in community education from Current Index to Journals in Education (CIJE), Education Index, Readers Guide to Periodical Literature, Library of Congress, Dissertation Abstracts International, and Ball State University's Institute for Community Education Development.
