Colorado Experience-Based Career Exploration. Model 7-10. First Interim Report.
Cromwell, Jannice J.
Evaluation was conducted of the Colorado Experience Based Career Education Model (CEBCEM) established in four subsites to formulate experience-based components, strategies, and objectives which fit the needs of students in grades 7 through 10. Focus of project activities during tne first year was on identifying and pilot testing selected components (basic skills, life skills, career development) and strategies (including career exploration, employer seminars, and guidance activities) of EBCE appropriate to the participating districts. Alternatives designed for implementing selected strategies were curriculum infusion, alternative school situations, interdisciplinary styles, and career cluster emphasis. Third-party evaluation was based on interviews with staff, teachers, and students and focused on process rather than product objectives. Concerns expressed by the evaluators related to the need to identify local goals, identification of student objectives for each strategy, identification of competency certification areas, and identification of student requirements. It was determined that those interviewed were very positive toward the project and that much activity was taking place in coordinating efforts of the schools and their local communities. Twelve recommendations were given regarding changes in strategies via questionnaire results. (Appendixes contain project materials and data collection and evaluation instruments.) (TA)
