Parkway Experience-Based Career Education. Annual Interim Report. First Year. October 1, 1976 to September 30, 1977.
Parkway School District, Chesterfield, MO.
An evaluation was conducted on the first year operations of the three-year Parkway, Missouri, Experienced Based Career Education (EBCE) program, which offered a one-year alternative educational experience for selected grade 11 and 12 students. The ten overall program goals evaluated follow those developed by the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory (NWREL) in Portland, Oregon. Three broad curriculum components--life skills, basic skills, and career development--were integrated to emphasize the relationships among career goals, academic choices, and personal aspirations. A total of sixty-three students participated in the program. No pretesting was conducted, but students were given criterion-referenced tests as part of the third-party evaluation. Other components of the evaluation were development of an optical scan recordkeeping form, interviews and surveys, and documentation of program activities. Each evaluation activity corresponded to different program objectives. Evaluation results included the following: (1) The EBCE students generally performed better on the criterion-referenced tests than did the control students; and (2) students and parents viewed the program positively. (Appendixes, comprising half the document, include publicity articles, EBCE job sites, career exploration guide, and the twenty-seven page third-party final evaluation report.) (TA)
