To provide an effective and available source of data on placement and follow-up of vocational education in Louisiana, a comprehensive follow-up system was designed for collecting information on students in secondary or postsecondary vocational programs from the time they complete or leave with marketable skills until five years following their leaving school. Preliminary forms and procedures were developed, reviewed, revised and field tested. A detailed teacher's guide was prepared and a series of computer programs for information storage and retrieval was developed. Finally, a detailed set of procedures for the operation of the follow-up system was developed to serve as an implementation guide. When implemented, the system has the capability to identify students whe have been enrolled in secondary, postsecondary, or adult preparatory vocational programs by occupational objective and secure pertinent information on each student; determine the employment status and other pertinent data on former students and the employment status and an evaluation of the training received; secure an evaluation of former students to function on the job; store all data collected on tape for retrieval; and retrieve selected data as needed and produce required reports.
