Fall 1974 Entering Students at the End of Their Sixth Semester, Fall 1974 Through Spring 1977: Third Report. Student Flow Project, Report No. 29.
Hawaii Univ., Honolulu. Community Coll. System.
In an extensive student progression report, six semesters of student flow data are summarized for 7,046 new students and 2,125 transfer students who entered the Hawaii community colleges in fall 1974. Continuation rates, full-time rates, credit-completion rates (CCR), changes of major, and graduates are analyzed by semester in terms of entering status by sex, college campus, and program. In the sixth semester, continuation rates for the community college total were 22% for new students and 16% for transfer students. Graduation rates were 13% for new students and 15% for transfer students. Overall, males had higher continuation rates than females each semester, as did vocational education majors compared to other students; females had higher graduation rates than males, as did vocational education majors compared to other students; females had slightly higher CCRs than males in each semester; and vocational education majors had higher full-time rates and CCRs than other students. Remarkable stability was noted in sex and program differences, semester after semester, for both new and transfer students. Besides system-wide totals, the study variables are reported for each college in appended statistical charts. (Author/RT)
