This syllabus outlines the daily schedule for a six-week course in intercultural communication, describes topics covered in class, and lists required reading selections. Course topics, presented by the instructor and by guest lecturers, include basic concepts and models of intercultural communication, public diplomacy, design and conduct of field research, culture and communication, Eastern and Western value systems, the importance of public opinion in the conduct of foreign policy, and the mass media. During the course, students work in teams of three on field projects and prepare written and oral reports of their projects, and they write and present book reports.
