Perlman, Joseph; Stober, Marvin
Provided is a selected review of research on the education and training of the severely to profoundly mentally retarded which was reported in academic and professional publications in the years 1969 - 1975. Sections present bibliographic information and annotations for approximately 164 citations in the following eight research categories (sample subtopics in parentheses): sensori-motor skills, life skills programing (toilet training, grooming, and eating), social behaviors (social responsibility and social interaction), communication skills (operant approaches and precursors of reading skills), descrimination learning (transfer of learning and situational determinants), reduction of undesirable behavior (stereotypies and self-injurious behaviors), conditioning methodology, and assessment. The sections covering each research area are followed by a summary of findings. (IM)
