The introduction features tables on degrees distributed by program for 1970-71 in the U.S. and in the South; changes in number of degrees distributed by field and level in the South for 1971-72 and 1973-74; degrees distributed by field and level in the South for 1971-72 and 1973-74; and degrees by field and sex for 1973-74. Tables 1-3 present the number of degrees by program, by sex, and by private and public institutions in both the United States and the South for 1973-74.
