Some Models for Small Group Lessons in Comprehension.
New York City Board of Education, Brooklyn, NY. Div. of High Schools.
The models of small-group lessons provided in this booklet were developed by the New York City Board of Education, under the Elementary Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Title I, to act as guides from which the teacher can generate materials on reading comprehension. Chapters deal with the instruction of such comprehension skills as utilizing contextual clues for vocabulary meaning, locating specific information, gleaning the main idea from materials, and making inferences from reading. Each chapter is divided into a discussion of "process," a general outline of the skill involved; techniques for teaching; and sample teaching activities. Appendixes include a skill/grade-level chart, a class profile sheet, and a mini-taxonomy of comprehension and vocabulary skills. (KS)
