This teacher's handbook is a guide to available paperback translations of primary material in the humanities field. The selections chosen to be included are recommended by the compiler as the best English translations available. The book is divided into sections chronologically: (1) ancient, to 450 A.D.; (2) medieval, 450-1500 A.D.; (3) early modern, 1500-1800 A.D.; and (4) late modern, 1800 A.D. to present. Each chronological division is subdivided into genres--fiction and other prose, poetry, drama, and philosophy and religion--and each genre is further subdivided according to language. Listings within each genre are alphabetical according to language, and listings within each language are alphabetical according to author. Each entry, where possible, contains author, title in English, translator and publisher. (ND)
