The resource guide of instructional materials is one of two guides developed by 84 occupational education teachers in the State of New York, each experienced with the designated high school population. The assessment instrument developed to evaluate the occupational education materials is included. The occupational education materials are grouped into sections by subject matter: automobile mechanics, building trades, business and office education, child care education, cosmetology, distributive education, and practical nursing. Types of materials reviewed include: textbooks, simulation sets, workbooks, laboratory kits, pamphlets, filmstrips, cassette tapes, teachers' manuals, counselor handbooks, slides, transparencies, reference books, and multimedia programs. Each item is evaluated in an abstract format and contains: bibliographic data (subject matter area, title, publisher, year of publication, and cost); type of material (listing of number and types of items included under title); brief descriptions of material; readability level (one of three readability formulas was used with all printed materials, Dale-Chall, Frye, or Spache); overall rating (expressed as a ratio of total points); summary of ratings (bias, accuracy, appropriateness, verbal and visual fluency, usefulness and versatility); and additional comments.
